Nicholas moved to Nashville in 2010 after he won many diverse competitions throughout the U.S.. After an audition He was invited to work with the Nashville String Machine, a classically trained group of the countries top session musicians. While he stays busy and routed within the classical community of the Southeast US, he has been in demand as regular session player in Nashville. His commercial clients include:well known performers like Kelly Clarkson, Martina McBride, Lionel Richie, Kenny Loggins, Trisha Yearwood, Shanina Twain, Brooks and Dunn, Bill and Gloria Gaither, Big Kenny, The Gaither Homecoming Band, David Archuleta, Orla Fallon, Steven Curtis Chapman, Disney, Michael W Smith, Richard Marx, and recording soundtracks for numerous Sony Playstation games. He is also a core member of the Nexus Chamber Orchestra, Orchestra Kentucky, Chattanooga Symphony and a regular alternate cellist for Nashville, Harrisburg and Alabama symphonies. He also been a national finalist in the prestigious Music Teachers National Association and the American String Teacher’s Association’s solo string competitions. currently he maintains a small and selective teaching studio in East Nashville TN.
. After playing for three years with the Jacksonville Symphony and then five years with the Charleston Symphony, Matt won a position in the cello section in the Nashville Symphony in 1999.
In 2002 Matt was one of the founding members of ALIAS Chamber Ensemble in Nashville, TN, appearing as cellist, composer, bassist, and guitarist. He served as the organization’s Executive Director from 2009-2011.

Matt is featured on ALIAS’ first CD, “Hilos”, music of Gabriela Lena Frank, released on Naxos’ “American Classics” label in 2011; he also co-produced the disc, which received a Grammy-nomination for Best Small Ensemble Perfromance.
Beside appearing numerous times on WPLN’s “Live in Studio C”, including one program of his own compositions, Mat has performed nationally on NPR’s Performance Tday and self produced two CDs as a guitarist/ songwriter (Rhythm Of The Road and No Fiddles). He has also performed in many of the popular Nashville rock,jazz, and country venues such as the French Quarter Cafe, In The Basment, Te Exit, and the Nashvelle jazz Workshop.
Matt has worked closely with many famous performing artists such as Lyle Lovett and chet Adkins. many of his compositions have become heavily swing- and blues-influenced. Among these are several pieces for various instrumental pairings with the cello (flugelhorn, violin, viola) and jazz piano trio. These pieces rely on the cellist (as well as the rhythm section) to improvise over standard jazz chord progressions.
